Suzann Charen Granger

SOUTHWICK-Suzann Charen Granger, 61 of Southwick passed away on Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, in the home she loved. Suzann is survived by the love of her life, Ken; her children, Austen and Chelsea; her sisters, Ronnie and Marjory and countless friends and family.  Suzann will be remembered as the kindest woman- a best friend, a love,  a teacher, a caretaker, a creator of community, a mentor, and an inspiration. Her love was boundless and will live on in our hearts.

Suzann was born and raised in the Philadelphia area.  She later graduated from the University of Hartford in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education.  Ken and Suzann met and fell in love in 1977 and stayed very much in love throughout their marriage.  Suzann called Southwick, MA her home for the last 36 years. She was involved in the community in many ways: as a founder and lead teacher at Rainbow Images Preschool, as a La Leche League Leader, as The Southwick Playscape coordinator, and as the founder and facilitator of Mom’s Connection & playgroup through the Southwick Family Support Coalition.  Suzann was also a Leader of Early Childhood “STEP” and a leader of a Parent-Child Interactive Playgroup.  She was Apartment Manager for Friends of the Special Needs Individuals in Chicopee as well as a Daily Living Skills Teacher at the Oak Hill School for the Blind in Hartford, Ct. She was also a Special Education Teacher at the Wheeler Clinic in Plainville, Ct. Most recently Suzann was a caregiver and companion to many elderly individuals in our community.

Suzann’s love for people and the world was extraordinary. She lived this love in every way and honored this commitment to people with many years spent passionately serving the children and elders of our community. She did all of this with a beaming heart and unending amounts of compassion and patience. Suzann loved her friends and family fiercely. To be loved by Suzann was to know true love; she loved without judgment. She was the most openhearted, and could love you exactly as you are.  Suzann loved the simple things of life; spending time with her family and friends, reading books and talking on the phone. She found great peace in the natural world, walking, hiking, swimming, camping and long days at the beach.

Suzann’s life will be celebrated November 28th at the Genesis Spiritual Life Center in Westfield, MA from 2-5PM in the Carriage House, with a Ceremony at 2:30PM (53 Mill Street, Westfield, MA) End of Life services entrusted to Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC 691 College Hwy., Southwick, MA    To share a memory and express condolences please visit Suzann’s Life Tribute page at www.avaloncelebrations.com
