Walter R. Reilly

SPRINGFIELD-Walter R. Reilly, 72, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke in Holyoke, MA surrounded by his family.  Walter was born on February 08, 1945 in Springfield, MA to John Joseph & Bertha Reilly.  He worked for many years as a welder for Uniroyal and was a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Springfield, MA.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1969.  Walter enjoyed camping with his family on Moose Head Lake in Maine.  If you didn’t find him enjoying a nice cigar or reading a military book, he was most likely spending his time fishing, many days were spent with his wife and family fishing the Quabbin Reservoir.  While stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba Walter learned to scuba dive, which he continued to enjoy throughout his adult life.  Earlier in his life, Walter and his wife spent warm sunny days enjoying a ride on his Harley Sportster.  Predeceased by his parents, he leaves his wife Dolores (Czepiel) Reilly of Feeding Hills, MA formerly of Springfield, MA, his son Patrick Reilly of Burlington, VT, his daughter Caitlin Gadecki and her husband Stefan of Feeding Hills, MA, his brother John Joseph Reilly III and his 2 precious grandchildren Brynn and Annika Gadecki of Feeding Hills, MA.  The Reilly family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of 3 North at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke along with the staff of Western Massachusetts Hospice for the professional care and compassion they provided Walter and his family.  A Veterans’ farewell service was held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke.  A private burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.  The family has entrusted Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC 691 College Hwy., Southwick, MA with end of life arrangements.  To express a condolence please visit Walter’s memorial page at www.avaloncelebrations.com
