Richard Wayne Reed

WESTFIELD-Richard Wayne Reed, 83, of Westfield, MA passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019.  He was born on July 27, 1936, in Mt. Holly, New Jersey to John and Mable (Baker) Reed. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 8 years. He served in French Morocco, ending his career and the last 4 years of his service at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA. 

He had worked at Digital Equipment Corporation for 23 years as a technician.  Later working in Biomedical Engineering for Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA, and Masonicare in CT.

He was dedicated to his faith and church.  He was a current member at Florence Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a past member of Springfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  He had served as an elder in the Springfield Church and 17 years as the church treasurer in Florence. 

Mechanics came naturally to him.  He could fix anything that was in need of repair.  This was a talent he was always ready to share with those who knew him. 

He leaves behind the love of his life and a partner he did everything with, his wife of 60 years Arline (Sponberg) Reed.  He also leaves his daughter Sharon Larivee and her husband David of Westfield, MA his daughter Carolyn LaValley and her husband Mark of West Springfield, MA, his grandchildren Eric and Kyle Larivee, Alicia Heath and her husband Jon, and Chelsea and Brigette LaValley, his great-grandchildren Madison and Damien Heath, his niece Linda Luckinbill and her husband Kevin, his great-nephews Christopher and Michael Luckinbill, along with his church family, and friends. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 12 NOON at Avalon Life Celebration Center, 691 College Hwy., Southwick, MA 01077.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 NOON  at the funeral home.  A private family burial will be held in the Southwick Cemetery on Monday, November 18, 2019.
