WEST SPRINGFIELD / HOLYOKE-Richard Alan Gordon, 62, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Over the past several months Richard courageously fought the battle of his life as he wittingly faced the many obstacles of his prostate cancer diagnosis. Up until his final few days, Richard tirelessly advocated for his proper and dignified end of life expectations. He was born on October 5, 1956, in Springfield, MA. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was passionate about his freedom and his fairness to all people. As a young man, he enjoyed biking, hiking, and swimming. Richard was a freelance writer for many online blogs. Although he never achieved his dream, he hoped to publish one of his short stories. Mr. Gordon recently invested time in learning about his Blackfoot Indian heritage. His final few days were spent under the care of the staff at Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. At the Soldiers’ Home, he was surrounded by many new friends and a caring staff who created a stable and loving environment for him. Richard would like to thank his new friends and the staff of the Soldiers’ Home for the end of life support they extended to him during his final days. Mr. Gordon was laid to rest with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetry in Agawam, MA at 1 PM on Friday, June 14, 2019.
