WEST SPRINGFIELD – Bob Barrett, 48, passed away on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021, in West Springfield, MA. 

Bob was born in Worcester, MA on October 30, 1972, and graduated from Oxford High School, Oxford, MA class of 1991.  Before joining the Navy Bob was an avid skier having won various races at Ski Ward, where he also served as a ski instructor and National Ski Patrol.

Bob honorably served his country for over 5 years in the United States Navy.  Bob joined the Navy in August 1991 and served as a Gunners Mate Guns Third Class and was a Plankowner as he commissioned the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Lake Erie CG70, built in Bath Maine, and homeported in Pearl Harbour Hawaii.  He served as ships Duty Master at Arms, Ships Armory Officer, and Security Force Supervisor.  During his service, he was awarded the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Southeast Asia Service Medal, and various other personal and unit awards. 

Bob’s service and training in the Navy proved invaluable in Civilian Life.  He worked as a supervisor for TSA at Bradley International Airport (where he met the love of his life Michelle).  Bob was a Certified Firearms Instructor and spent 5 years as a Firearms Instructor at Smith and Wesson where he was the manager of the Shooting Sports Center and a License To Carry Instructor.  He worked in the Loss Prevention Department for JC Penny, Lechmere, Best Buy, and TJ Maxx. Most recently Bob was the Security Supervisor for over 10 years at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.  Bob recently retired from the Hampden County Sherriff’s Office as a Lieutenant.

Bob loved spending time with his family, including his massive fur babies Shadow, Storm, Dakota, and Sally.  He had an expert poker face which he used often while playing poker with his friends.  When Bob and Michelle had free time, there were 2 activities they quickly planned.  Michelle’s love for cruising, which quickly rubbed off on Bob and their shared passion as Parrot Heads.  Bob and Michelle often enjoyed Buffett concerts along with many other groups they enjoyed following.  Bob was Initiated passed and raised the sublime degree of Master Mason the 18th of April, 2009.

Bob is predeceased by his father-in-law, Richard Hannah, and his Father Robert Cardinal.

Bob leaves his wife, Michelle (Hannah) Barrett, his radiant children;  daughters Lexie and Bradie, and his son Paul, all of West Springfield, MA, his mother Diane Martin of Leicester, MA, his brothers Ken Barrett of Michigan and Eric Barrett of Leicester, MA, his Sister Ashley Cameron of Shrewsbury, MA, his Grandmother Nell of Shrewsbury, MA, his step-father Stephen Martin of Webster, MA, his mother-in-law Nancy Slate of GA, his step-mother-in-law Claire Hannah of NC, his brother-in-laws Mark Hannah and his wife Carolee of GA and Eric Hannah of West Springfield, Ma, his sister-in-law Barbara Hannah of West Springfield,  MA, along with other family members, close friends, and his dedicated Band of Brothers.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery for a 10:00 AM Committal Service on Monday, June 28, 2021, 1390 Main St, Agawam, MA 01001.  A Life Celebration Luncheon will follow at Oak Ridge Country Club, 850 South Westfield St, Agawam, MA 01030.
