RICHARD GRECO, SR Obituary

SOUTHWICK - Richard Dean Greco, known affectionately as Rick, passed away peacefully at his home on September 25, 2024, at the age of 67. Born in Springfield, MA, on June 7, 1957, Rick was the cherished son of the late Richard Rocco Greco and Elaine Louise Greco (DeSpirit), who often referred to him as their “miracle child.” After his father’s passing when Rick was just six years old, he was raised by his second father, Stephen J. Wyzga, who survives him.

Rick married his soulmate, Karen Ann Greco (Clark), whom he met as a teenager at the Rollaway Roller-Skating Rink at Riverside Park on June 12th, 1976. Their love story was one for the ages, a bond that grew from young love into a lifetime of shared moments. They lived, worked, and faced every challenge side by side, their devotion to one another like something out of a romance movie. Fittingly, on their dates, Rick would clip "Precious Moments" cartoons from the daily newspaper and bring them to Karen. As they matured, their love remained youthful and vibrant with Karen referring to Rick as "the love of my life," and her "heart of gold man." What they gave one another was a testament to the enduring love they shared for over half a century.

Rick was the proud father of two children, Richard “Ricky” and Christine, whom he adored beyond measure. His grandchildren, Antonio and Charlie, brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His beloved Boston Terrier, Brutus, remained his faithful companion and protector, staying by Rick’s side until the very end.

Rick was a man of many talents, most notably his skill with his hands. Whether it be machining, woodworking , or building homes Rick was able to take something ordinary and make it extraordinary. His true passion lay in restoring cars, particularly Corvettes. Through his business, RG Restorations, Rick earned a reputation for his meticulous work, winning some of the most prestigious awards in the field of car restoration. He was known for his determination, strength, and stubbornness—qualities that enabled him to defy doctors’ expectations and live life on his terms.

Rick’s mischievous spirit and devious smile were legendary among his friends, Roland and Larry, with whom he shared many adventures dating back to their time at Agawam High School. He was always quick with a prank (usually involving a dirt bike), never afraid to stir up a little trouble, but behind his playful nature was a man full of love and kindness.

Rick’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife Karen, his children Richard and his partner Michael Mayo and Christine and her partner Peter Ampelakis, Jr,  his grandchildren Antonio and Charlie, his second father Stephen, and many lifelong friends. Rick passed away as he lived, surrounded by those he loved most—he fought to be comfortable on his couch, sleeping next to his bride and loyal dog.
