AGAWAM – Richard Paul Gloster, 66, passed away on May 30, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA
Richard was born on June 8, 1957, in Springfield, MA to the late Ronald V Gloster and Gloria A (Torricelli) Gloster.
Richard was a graduate of Agawam High School and The Culinary Institute of America. He spent his entire career as a chef, including owning and operating Alvin’s Sandwich Shop for over 13 years. He also shared his talents by creating ice sculptures throughout the state and beyond.
Richard enjoyed being active and taking part in many outdoor sports including hiking, biking, and kayaking. He completed 6 Pan-Mass Challenge rides, including his most recent while undergoing treatment for lung cancer in 2023. Richard is a member of the Jimmy Fund Council of Western Mass and founded the Chefs for Jimmy Fundraiser in 1990. However, Richard loved nothing more than spending quality time with those near and dear to him.
In addition to his parents, Richard is also predeceased by father and mother-in-law Clyde and Madeline Simpson, and his sister-in-law Lisa Holloway.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years Linda M (Simpson) Gloster of Agawam, MA, his son Shawn Gloster of East Longmeadow, MA and his significant other Krista Backiel of Clinton, MA, his daughters Erinn Gloster of Boston, MA, and Megan Wallace and her wife Bethany Wallace of Southington, CT, his brothers Daniel Gloster of East Longmeadow, MA and Christopher Gloster and his wife Joanne of Agawam, MA, his sister Mary Doty of East Longmeadow, MA, his grandchildren: Egan and Eloise Wallace and Ava and Brody Gloster, his sister-in-law Lori Keeley and her husband Brian of Feeding Hills, MA, his brother-in-law Terry Holloway of Agawam, MA. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews, along with his cherished friends.

Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC 691 College Hwy, Southwick, MA 01077 A prayer service will be held at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
