Melissa Ann Skiba, 51, of Agawam, MA passed away on May 8, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on September 24, 1973, in Worcester, MA, Melissa was a devoted mother, a loyal sister, and a beloved daughter. She dedicated her life to raising her three sons-Daniel John Skiba, Ryan Edward Skiba, and Sean Joseph Skiba-who were the center of her world and her proudest accomplishments.
Melissa was known for her spirited personality. As well as her kindness, her sharp wit, and a sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was the kind of person who welcomed others without hesitation, advocated fiercely for her family, and always found a way to bring laughter, even in the hardest moments. A certain phrase, “Shit happens," which was said in her final days, reflected her strength and her ability to face life's challenges with grit and humor.
A lover of early 2000s rock, Melissa found joy and comfort in music. Songs from that era became the soundtrack to many of her fondest memories- whether it was singing along in the car with her sons or dancing with family in her final days. Music was one of the ways she expressed herself and stayed connected to the good times instead of the bad.
Melissa is survived by her three sons, Daniel and his wife Samantha, Sean, and Ryan, all of Agawam, MA; her mother, Maureen Skiba of Agawam, MA; her sister Leslee Mitchell and her husband Derek of Westfield, MA; her brother David Boss of Westfield, MA; and her sister Bridget Boss of Northampton, MA. She also leaves behind a niece and three nephews, who referred to her as Auntie Lissa. As well as numerous long lasting friendships. She was also predeceased by her father, Walter John Skiba III, in 1989.
Melissa would want to be remembered as being pain-free, happy, and healthy-just as she was when surrounded by her boys and those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the warmth she gave, the laughter she shared, and the lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17th, 2025 at 2 pm at Leslee's home.
