Leon Costas Papageorge, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Born in Northampton, MA, Leon attended Northampton High School before joining the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Northampton as a meteorologist. After serving, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Peters, with whom he was married for 59 years.
He went on to work at the Daily Hampshire Gazette and eventually the U.S. Postal Service, before enjoying his retirement. Leon was a roller-skater for years and became an avid bird-watcher, gardener, and puzzle lover. He was a lifelong antique car enthusiast, an active member of the Western Mass Model T Club and frequented car shows. He took great pride in his self-restored Model T, in which he took many road trips with his children. Leon was a dedicated patron of Mrs. Murphy’s Donuts for many years.
He is remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his rescue cat, Lilly.
