WESTFIELD – Larry Methe, Jr., 84, passed away unexpectedly at home in Westfield, MA on June 7, 2023.
Larry was born on June 27, 1938, in Springfield, MA to Laurent G. Methe, Sr. and Phyllis E. Methe (Chevalier).
Larry was a man of strong faith which was essential to his life. He graduated from Cathedral High School Class of 1957 and was involved with its Reunion Committee for many years.
A star football player at Cathedral High School, he continued his passion for football throughout his lifetime. He followed the Patriots and was an ardent supporter of his son-in-law’s high school football team. He was also an avid Red Sox fan and his children have many memories of driving around in one of his groovy vans trying to catch the AM signal to hear the game. Larry was in several bands, most notably the lead singer of the 70’s show band Stage Makeup. His beautiful voice, talent and charisma on the stage won him over to audiences up and down the East Coast. Later, he started several businesses, notably his auto glass repair business. Larry’s greatest gifts were his generosity of love and his special bond with his son, Eric, who has physical and intellectual disabilities. They were always together, hiking, going out to eat and sharing many corny jokes. Larry was Eric’s constant.
Larry highly respected our veterans, police and 1st responders. He and his wife Elizabeth enjoyed vacationing in Maine, walking on the beach, and hosting Christmas for their blended family. This quote describes Larry: “You may forget what people say, but you will never forget how they make you feel.” He made every person feel like they were the only person in the room and always parted with a big hug as if it was your last goodbye.
Larry is pre-deceased by his parents Laurent and Phyllis Methe, his daughter Diane Metayer, and his brother Philip Methe.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years Elizabeth Ann Methe (Fleming), his son Michael Metayer, daughter Michelle LaChapelle and her husband Kenneth, son Eric Methe, daughter Cheri Ribbe and her husband Christopher, step-daughter Charlene Teo and her husband Steve, step-daughter Emily Otero and her husband Luis, grandchildren: Cherie Smith, Christopher Tropasso, Bryanna Mellen, Michael Mellen, Grant Ribbe, Nina Ribbe, Talia Ribbe, Matthew Teo, Catherine Teo, Ezra Otero, Christina Otero, and newest great grandson Elliot, his sisters Jacqueline Chechile and her husband Richard, and JoAnne Beins and her husband Ross, along with many other cherished family and friends.
