SOUTHWICK - Karen F. Reed (McCue), 79, passed away on November 7, 2022, in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Karen was born on September 30, 1943, in Hartford, CT to Francis D. McCue and Margaret E. McCue (Larkin).
Karen graduated from Our Lady of the Angels Academy Enfield CT. Karen continued her education by earning a Bachelor of Arts from UMASS
A resident of Southwick for over 50 years, Karen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she sang in the Choir for many years. Karen was extremely active within her community as a past member of the Cultural Council as well as the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). At the time of her passing, she was the elected Chair of the Southwick Housing Authority. Karen dedicated 37 years of her life as a Social Worker working for Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance. She then went on to work in Child Care for an additional 18 years at the YMCA in Westfield, MA. Karen enjoyed spending much of her spare time loving on her many pets, creating beautiful art projects, taking her grandchildren out to eat and hanging out with friends at the Daily Grind or Zantos Restaurant.
Karen leaves behind her brother David McCue of CT, her sons David Reed of Southwick, John Reed of Southwick, Richard Reed and his wife Stacy of Southwick as well as her daughter Jeanne Reed-Waldron and her husband Harold of Southwick. Karen also leaves behind her six grandchildren Jordan Reed, Myles Reed, Miranda, Molly, Joshua and Jackson, her niece and nephews; Mary McCue of CT, Patrick McCue and his wife Lori of CT, Sean McCue and his wife Lisa of CT along with many friends who will miss her dearly. The family would like to give a special thanks to Karen’s life-long friends Bud and the late Patricia Phillips.
Karen is predeceased by both of her parents, her husband Elwin R. Reed, her brothers Patrick McCue and Dennis McCue, as well as two close friends that recently passed.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a period of visitation on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC, 691 College Hwy, Southwick, MA 01077. A prayer service will be held at 1 PM at the funeral home followed by burial in New Southwick Cemetery.
