SPRINGFIELD – Helmut Karl Marosits “Chef Helmut” 49, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021.
Helmut was born on June 3, 1972, in Lynn, MA to Roseanne (Hunter) Marosits and Helmut K. Marosits. Helmut graduated from Ludlow High School Class of 1990. Helmut was an accomplished football player, helping to bring his team to All-Western Mass. Helmut continued his education at Johnson & Wales University where he earned a degree in Culinary Arts in 1994. Chef Helmut was an Executive Chef at many restaurants in the area. He served as the Director of Culinary Arts at Brandford Hall for many years. As a chef, Helmut loved to feed his family and friends. He also mastered the art of knife making, a hobby he enjoyed during his spare time.
From a young age, Helmut was interested in bodybuilding and became a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was this interest that aided Helmut in overcoming an injury that had left him confined to a wheelchair. After his injury, Helmut began strength training and resumed bodybuilding which resulted in the full use of his body and independence from the wheelchair he had been confined to.
Helmut was a huge animal lover, he owned Karl’s Kreatures, a reptile wholesale company. Helmut involved his family & friends in the care and distribution to many local retailers such as Petco, Dave’s Soda and Pet City, and many more.
Helmut was an uber Indiana Jones Fan, possibly the World’s biggest. He had an extensive collection of authentic Indiana Jones gear, which he enjoyed wearing not only at Halloween but year-round. His favorite Indiana Jones accessory was his prized hat that he enjoyed wearing with his chef whites while teaching at Brandford Hall. Helmut was also a huge fan of Star Wars.
Helmut is predeceased by his mother Roseanne Marosits. Survivors include his wife of 21 years Jennifer Trudell-Marosits and their daughter Amelia, his brother Hunter Marosits and his wife Tiffany of Wilbraham, MA, his sister Elke Greenwood of Nevada, his sister-in-law Meghan Trudell of Agawam, MA, his mother-in-law Deborah Trudell and her husband Richard of Agawam, MA, a niece and two nephews, along with many other family members and friends.
