GRANVILLE - Frances E. Hansen, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 7, 2020, at her home in Granville, MA, on what would have been her 74th wedding anniversary. She went to have a heavenly anniversary dance with her husband, Harlon.
Frances was born on June 11, 1927, in Hartford, CT to Perry Handley and Evelyn (Young) Handley. Since childhood, everyone has called her Frankie.
Frankie was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1945. She met her future husband, Harlon, at a church social, and moved to Granville from Hartford, CT after marriage. Frankie was a 72-year resident of Granville.
As a young lady, Frankie enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout. For many years, Frankie worked as a machinist at Kennametal in Windsor Locks, CT. She was also a volunteer EMT for the Town of Granville and an active member of Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church in East Hartland, CT. Additionally, Frankie volunteered for several years at Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA. In her spare time, she mastered the art of sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears and attending country square dances.
Frankie was preceded in death by her husband Harlon Hansen, her parents Perry and Evelyn Handley, her son Kresten Hansen II, her sister Alice Cooper and her husband Russell Cooper, her grandson Leif Hansen, her great-great-grandson Lucas Ricketts, and her son-in-law James Markvart. She leaves her sons: Bruce Hansen (Marjorie) of Granville, MA, Raymond Hansen (Ellen) of Southwick, MA, Peter Hansen (Suzanne) of Southwick, MA, and Karl Hansen of Granville, MA, her daughters: Wendy Sampels (Michael) of Jefferson, OR, Ella Markvart of Westfield, MA, and Karen Farrington (James) of Enfield, CT, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law Deborah Hansen of Granville, MA, along with many other family members and friends.
There are no calling hours. The Hansen family will honor Frances’ life and legacy with a private service at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Granville Volunteer Fire Department Association, PO Box 74, Granville, MA 01034 or to the Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church, 116 Walnut Hill Road, East Hartland, CT 06027.
