Dear had worked as a hairdresser and school bus driver til the mid-1980s. She later worked in transportation construction as a dump truck driver. Dear was one of the first women dump truck drivers for Ron Cari in East Granby, CT. She often talked about all the good times at work and how she and her coworkers were like family.
She enjoyed lots of activities in her spare time. Working in her flower gardens, going to tag sales, shopping, camping, and dancing were a few of her favorites.
