Alta Paine Obituary

CHESTERFIELD – Alta May Bates Paine, 86, of Chesterfield, passed away June 19, 2018. 

She was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, on March 29, 1932, where she lived for 25 years before moving to Chesterfield. She was the daughter of the late John Bates and Easter Palmatier Bates.

Alta received her Registered Nurse degree from Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She specialized in one on one, end of life nursing, letting individuals make the decision of their own life for forty years.

Alta was a member of the National Grange, Massachusetts State Grange and Chesterfield Grange # 83. She was active in establishing the Massachusetts State Grange lobster booth at the Big E. She was a 4-H Leader for several years and enjoyed working with the 4-H members and their oxen. She enjoyed oxen pulls and traveled to pulls throughout New England. She was a seasonal tax preparer for H & R Block, worked at the Outlook Farm and VA Hospital.

Alta and her husband enjoyed tag sales, traveling across country, camping and the great outdoors. In her later years Alta liked taking walks in Look Park.

She is survived by her Brother, John Bates of Connecticut, Nephew, John Bates and wife Jean of New Hampshire, Niece, Jill Bates Stronk and husband William of Connecticut and Grand Nieces, Kimberlee, Heathre, Jennifer, Jillian and Elizabeth. 

Alta was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Paine in 1998 and her brother, William Benson Bates in 1998.
