ALLEN JOHNSON Obituary

Allen R. Johnson, 90, son of Helge E. Johnson (deceased) and Helen (Larson) Johnson (deceased) and brother to Raymond N. Johnson(deceased) passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Elisabeth and loving family by his side on April 25, 2022.

Allen, affectionately known to most as ‘Allie,’ was a 1951 graduate of Westfield High School and proudly enlisted in the US Army shortly after graduation where he was stationed in Würzburg, Germany. It was there that he met the love of his life Elisabeth. They returned to his hometown Southwick, MA where together they raised five children, Phyllis (Eddie) Dunn, Ronald Johnson, Susan (Tony) Rera, Kathleen Wild {Paul}, and Michelle Johnson (Brian).  He is the proud ‘Opa’ to thirteen grandchildren Erika (Brad) Emmelmann, Kerri (Nate) White, Justin Dunn, Donathan Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Anthony (Nicole) Rera, Timothy Rera (Sarah), Melissa (Chris) Theriaque, Clifford Stoothoff (Jenn), Ashley Stoothoff (Mike), Theresa (Dan) Bergeron, Ryan Price, and Jaden Tenerowicz, and eleven great-grandchildren, Trey, Brianna, Bentley, Summer, Sadie Logan, Brayden, Brooke Skylar, Payton and Riley.

Allen retired after 30 years with Hamilton Standard, Division of United Technologies where he was a mechanical engineer. He built ‘the tool for a tool to use with the tools’ – he could manufacture just about anything. He had many hobbies throughout his life including obtaining his private pilot’s license, buying salvaged private airplanes which he stripped to their foundation and rebuilt the body and engines, and then flew. He was a gentleman farmer with a host of livestock. He was an amateur photographer. He loved anything that moved (snowmobiles, motorcycles, minibikes) which he shared with his kids. He was known to make popcorn balls with his family on Christmas eve and deliver them to older friends. He loved to tinker, and never sat still – truly our Energizer Bunny, always working on a new project or rebuilding an old tractor. He was an avid marksman and member of the Agawam Revolver Club for over thirty years.

He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends who are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Living Hope church 267 College Highway in Southwick on Monday May 2 at 11:00   AM with burial immediately following in the New Cemetery in Southwick.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to help Veterans suffering from PTSD by donating to the One Call Away Foundation, C/O One Call Away, 104 Ramah Circle South, Agawam, MA 01001
