WESTFIELD-Thelma Cecilia Martin, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Genesis Healthcare Westfield Center in Westfield, MA.
Thelma was born on November 14, 1936, in Chicago, IL to George Roesler and Cecilia (Carrington) Roesler.
Thelma was a devoted homemaker, the best mother, and an excellent cook. She raised a family of 2 boys and 4 girls, who became known as Team Thelma. She has a loving and tender spirit that was available for anyone who needed to be lifted.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses in Westfield, MA.
In her spare time, Thelma enjoyed journaling, drawing, and dancing. Any relaxing afternoon was sure to be filled with watching her favorite old TV shows and Turner Classic Movies. Thelma had many activities to fill her days but what most will remember is her love for riding her bike. She could be seen around Westfield every day of the year taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
Thelma is predeceased by her parents George Roesler and Celia Canela, her brother Albert Roesler, her sister Violet, and her brother-in-law Charlie Leedom. She leaves her sons Aristeo Torres of Springfield, MA and Gilbert Martin of Agawam, MA, her daughters: Liz Avalone of West Springfield, MA, Cindi Mccready of Becket, MA, Sheryl Leo of St. Cloud, FL, and Lisa Simmitt of Westfield, MA; her brothers: Valentino Carrington and his wife Carol of Holyoke, MA, Manuel Canela of OR, and Raymond Canela and his wife Adrian of FL; her sister Linda Miller and her husband Rick of SC and Nevada Leedom of NY, 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends.
A gathering to celebrate Thelma’s life will be at Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC 691 College Hwy., Southwick, MA 01077 on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 4 – 6 PM.
