Mary Elizabeth (Adkisson) Schaufler

WEST SPRINGFIELD-Mary Elizabeth Schaufler, 88yrs, of West Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on September 2, 2019. Born in Absecon, NJ she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Spreng) Adkisson. Her husband Arthur F.  Schaufler, predeceased her in 2014.  She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda Lee Duda and her husband William R. Duda of Westfield, MA, sister, Lois Fowler of Absecon, NJ, brother, William Adkission, Jr. and his wife Viona of Cooksville, TN,  her beloved grandsons Jeffrey W. Duda and his wife Tunde of Somers, CT and Trent C. Duda and his partner Amanda Boissonneault of Southwick, MA, 3 great-grandaughters who she adored and gave her great joy, Emma Duda, Ella Duda, and Emily Duda of Somers, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary spent all her life except for the past 5 years in Absecon and Mays Landing, NJ.  She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School and worked at the Veterans Administration, Washington, DC, after graduation. She moved back to Absecon,  NJ to marry Arthur upon his return from the Korean War.  She was a longtime employee of Atlantic Maintenance and Eastern Janitorial Supply in Pleasantville, NJ where she was the executive secretary and bookkeeper.

Mary was an accomplished quilter and her passion was making quilts. She loved teaching children to quilt.  She also liked to do needlepoint and was an avid baker and cook, always trying new recipes.  Mary was devoted to her family and they gave her great joy and comfort.  

Funeral Services will be held at the Avalon Life Celebration Cente & Cremation Service in Southwick MA.  The service will be private.  Mary will join her husband for burial at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Mays Landing,  NJ on September 22, 2019.  In lieu of flowers, please contribute to organizations that support and care for our wounded veterans and their families.
